All White Rock Students Will Attend Horning for Middle School

Waukesha School Board to discuss Rivers Crossing subdivision students at future meeting.

White Rock Elementary School fifth-graders who are heading to middle school next fall will no longer be split between Horning and Butler middle schools.

The Waukesha School Board voted Wednesday night to change the district boundaries to send all the students who graduate White Rock to Horning Middle School. The move was done to address crowding at Butler Middle School.

“We have got to create some space for next year,” said Kurt O’Bryan, an outgoing board member. “… It is really an unmanageable situation at Butler Middle School.”

The change affects about 18 students for the 2011-12 school year. All of those students that would have gone to Butler live west of the Fox River.

Superintendent Todd Gray said the principal at White Rock was informed about the possible changes before it went to a school board committee last month. The parents will be informed about the school board’s decision.

The school board also will review the possibility of sending all Rivers Crossing subdivision students that attend Bethesda Elementary School to Central Middle School. Some of the students at Bethesda currently are given the option to pick between Butler and Central middle schools following fifth grade.

The Finance & Facilities Committee briefly discussed the changes to the Bethesda students during its Monday meeting but waited to take any action to allow parents to contact the school board about the issue.

The Rivers Crossing subdivision decision could come back as early as next month’s school board meeting.

“Attendance area changes are a big decision,” O’Bryan said.
