United Way and UPS to Install Waukesha County's Eighth Born Learning Trail

United Way in Waukesha County and UPS will install the county’s eighth Born Learning Trail. At a City of Brookfield Parks and Recreation Commission meeting last night, Lori Hayes, United Way in Waukesha County and Teddi Zeman, UPS, requested the Wirth Park location for the next Born Learning Trail. The request was unanimously approved by the commission. The installation will take place in Wirth Park in Brookfield, with the official ribbon cutting slated to take place in early August. Born Learning Trails help parents, grandparents, caregivers and the community create quality, early-learning opportunities for young children. The trails help to increase parental engagement in the lives of children, an integral piece of the United Way Helping Kids Succeed initiative. Included in the trail are signs with suggested activities for adults and children to participate in together. For instance, the Watch! Stop! Learn! Play! sign encourages caregivers to follow the child’s lead, building the child’s curiosity and confidence. UPS is providing the funding for the trail as well as the volunteers who will be installing the trail. Other locations in Waukesha County for Born Learning Trails include: • Mukwonago’s Miniwaukan Park (sponsored by ProHealth Care) • New Berlin’s ProHealth Care Park (sponsored by FedEx SmartPost) • Oconomowoc’s Wood Creek Park (sponsored by Aurora Health Care) • Pewaukee’s Nettesheim Park (sponsored by We Energies) • Sussex’s Weyer Park (sponsored by Power Sports Network) • Waukesha’s Heyer Park (sponsored by Oberlin Filter Company) • Waukesha’s Cultler Park (sponsored by Waukesha Family Practice Center) Born Learning is a national public engagement campaign that helps parents, grandparents and caregivers explore ways to turn everyday moments into learning opportunities.
