United Way in Waukesha County and FamilyWize Saved Families $589, 527 on Prescription Medicines

In 2012 Waukesha community residents collectively saved $589,527 on prescription medicines through the FamilyWize program and United Way.

United Way in Waukesha County and the FamilyWize Community Service Partnership have teamed up to make prescriptions more affordable for those without insurance or even those who have insurance that does not cover their prescription costs. FamilyWize cards have provided needed relief with great success in Waukesha County. 7,352 residents in the community used the FamilyWize card in 2012 and saved a collective total of $589, 527 on the cost of their prescription medicines. 

United Way in Waukesha County is one of about 1,000 local United Ways that partner with the FamilyWise program. “Our partnership with United Way Worldwide and almost 1,000 local United Ways nationwide gives us a national platform to help people in every community across the country,” said Dan Barnes, FamilyWize CEO and co-founder. 

“The FamilyWize card is a great resource for people in the community who may be struggling to meet their basic needs. It is a way to help them save much needed money to make hard time a little bit easier,” said Kurt Schimdt, AFL-CIO Labor Liason of the United Way in Waukesha County.

The free FamilyWize prescription cards can be used at most pharmacies including all chain pharmacies and groceries nationwide. Cards are available for residents of Waukesha County on the United Way in Waukesha County website: www.UnitedWayWaukesha.org

United Way in Waukesha County is currently on track to reach the goal of their Strive for 5 campaign.
