Your Thoughts: What Should Happen With Allegations Against Justice Prosser?

News reports from the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel this weekend allege Justice David Prosser was physically violent with Justice Ann Walsh Bradley during a dispute around the time the state Supreme Court released The report also states witnesses claim Prosser was acting out of self defense.

The re-election of Prosser brought national media attention to Waukesha County after Waukesha County Clerk Kathy Nickolaus in a report to the Associated Press, which left off all the votes from the City of Brookfield in her unofficial report. The exclusion of the data led the challenger, Assistant Attorney General JoAnne Kloppenburg, to declare victory. After Brookfield’s votes were included in the reports, Prosser was declared the winner.

The state Supreme Court election had increased interest as Prosser is a conservative judge and Kloppenburg aligned herself with the Democratic Party. Those against Republican Gov. Scott Walker’s budget repair bill – also known informally by opponents as the union-busting bill – were pushing for Kloppenburg’s election.

However, Walker reportedly spoke out against the fighting in the state Supreme Court, according to a Janesville Gazette article. 

In the meantime, the Wisconsin Capitol Police have turned the investigation of the allegations against Prosser over to the Dane County Sheriff’s Department.
