Woodman’s Rezoning Gets Nod From Plan Commission

But Common Council has to make final approval.

The property at Highway 164 and East Main Street could be rezoned and the land use be amended from industrial to commercial to make way for a new Woodman’s grocery store.

The plans for Woodman’s Food Market on the 33.6 acres of land on the northwest corner of the intersection have not yet been submitted for Plan Commission approval. However, Woodman’s is looking at putting in six out lots and a gas station/car wash, according to City Planner Doug Koehler. Woodman’s will also look to install two stormwater detention ponds, according to Koehler.

The Plan Commission approved the rezoning request during its meeting Wednesday night at City Hall. The rezoning approval needs to go before the Common Council for the final OK.

“They would have the final say on this,” Koehler said.

Bret Bachus of Woodman’s spoke during the Plan Commission meeting and assured the commissioners that the employee-owned grocery store chain realizes it has to receive all city approvals. The project has been heartily endorsed and encouraged by who was not present at the meeting.
