Waukesha's District 12 Seat Has Spring Election

Appointed Alderman Rick Hastings will have to win seat in election in April to remain on Common Council.

While 2012 is technically an off-year for aldermanic elections in Waukesha, there will be one election in April 2012.

The District 12 seat is currently held by , who in early March after resigned from the position because of health reasons. The position is up for election this spring for a one-year term.

Packets for alderman are available the first week of November, according to Gina Kozlik, but interested candidates can register the campaign earlier if they plan to begin fundraising. Common Council members need to collect 20 to 40 nomination signatures to appear on the ballot.

Here’s the steps for the aldermanic election:

  • Dec. 1; Candidates can begin circulating nomination papers after registering campaign
  • Jan. 3; Nomination papers and declaration of candidacy papers are due at 5 p.m. at City Hall
  • Feb. 21; Primary election if there are more than two candidates
  • April 3; Election
