Waukesha Voter Turnout Higher Than 2010 Mayoral Election

More people cast votes in Tuesday’s election in Waukesha than in last year’s mayoral race that elected Jeff Scrima as the city’s leader.

Unofficial results show that 15,002 people cast votes in Tuesday’s election, which was 31.4 percent of registered voters in Waukesha. About 27 percent of registered voters cast ballots in the 2010 mayoral race, according to information available at the city clerk/treasurer office. Tuesday’s results are unofficial until canvassing.

Election turnout varied throughout the city, though. In District 6 where Brian White was running unopposed to the seat that is held by Alderman Paul Furrer, who did not seek re-election, only 13 percent of registered voters in that district showed up to vote.

In District 10 and District 13, where contested aldermanic races were occurring, turnout was much higher than the city’s average. Waukesha South High School’s polling location, which re-elected Alderman Steve Johnson, had a 45.7 percent turnout. Bethesda Elementary School’s polling location where voters elected Andy Reiland to the District 13 seat on the Common Council had a 47.8 percent turnout.

Another busy polling location was Waukesha North High School, which had 41.4 percent turnout. Waukesha North is the polling location for District 14, which did not have any city races this election.
