Waukesha Teachers Protest Walker's Budget Repair Bill in Madison

Tens of thousands of protesters gathered in Madison on Saturday.
Although the state Assembly passed Gov. Scott Walker's early Friday morning, the state Senate is awaiting the return of the Democratic senators who fled to Illinois to delay a vote on the bill.
Under the proposed state legislation, collective bargaining would be limited to wages, which canβt increase consumer price index-based cap, according to a news release from Walker. The cap could be exceeded by referendum.

The union contracts would be limited to a year, the news release states, and wages frozen until new contract is settled.
Law enforcement, fire department personnel and state troopers and inspectors are not affected by the proposed legislation.
