Waukesha School Taxes Could Decrease by $3M

Budget hearing will take place Aug. 10 before school board's regular meeting.

The Waukesha School District could lower its taxes by $3 million in the 2011-12 school year as compared to last year, according to information presented to the Waukesha School Board.

The $160.2 million budget includes a total tax levy of $83.8 million and mill rate of $9.26 per $1,000 of equalized value, which is down from $9.34 in the 2010-11 budget.

The Waukesha School District's tax levy was $86.3 million for the 2010-11 school year.

Changes in equalization aid will result in a $5.1 million reduction to $49.9 million and a $6.5 million reduction caused by changes in the revenue cap. A special aid adjustment of $10.2 million has also been included in order to soften the blow of the budget cuts.

The Waukesha School Board will hold a public listening session on the 2011-12 budget at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 10, at the Lindholm Building, 222 Maple Ave.

The board approved holding the session prior to its August board meeting as part of the annual approval process of the document.
