Waukesha Business Gets TEA Grant

Gov. Scott Walker announces $650,000 matching grant for railroad spurs at Weldall Manufacturing.

Weldall Manufacturing was awarded Thursday afternoon a $650,000 Transportation Economic Assistance grant from the state to assist with the construction of railroad spurs to further the industrial company’s expansion.

The City of Waukesha applied for the grant on behalf of Weldall Manufacturing. Weldall Manufacturing is matching the grant with another $650,000 of its own financing to complete the $1.3 million project.

“We couldn’t be more thrilled,” Gov. Scott Walker said when announcing the grant.

Walker said at the manufacturing facility that Weldall has grown its employee base from 113 employees to 240 employees this year. Weldall is looking to hire another 40 to 50 workers, Walker said.

“We need more companies like this in the State of Wisconsin,” Walker said.

While other places in the community have felt the affects of the recession – such as Westwood Aluminum Castings, – Weldall Manufacturing is expanding its facility by 76,000 square feet.

Weldall Manufacturing entered into a tax incremental financing agreement with the in 2010. The expansion includes $975,000 in funding from the city that will be paid back through the increased property taxes. The property value is to increase by $6.5 million.
