Waukesha Alderman Running for Open State Assembly Seat

A Waukesha Common Council member has decided to run for the open seat in the 97th Assembly District.

Aaron Perry, 33, told Waukesha Patch he decided to run for the State Assembly as a Republican after sexual harassment allegations were made against State Rep. Bill Kramer, who now faces felony charges and has decided to not seek re-election. Perry is anticipating a Republican primary, but he wants to continue the work being done in Madison by other politicians.

Perry wants to make an impact as a state representative, he told Patch. The position might be a state level position, but he also feels it has local impact.

“It can truly make an impact on people’s lives,” Perry said. “I trust my decision making.”

Perry has researched the position for the past few weeks and has been urged by other Waukesha Common Council members, which helped encourage him to run. Perry is hoping to take a fresh look at and a professional approach to state politics while working to alleviate financial burdens on area families, he said.

“It’s healthy to have someone there with different eyes,” he said.

Here is Perry’s news release announcing his intent to run for the 97th Assembly District:

To the public and residents of Assembly District 97:

I'm announcing my candidacy for State Assembly in this November's election. I've had the pleasure of being a resident of the City of Waukesha since 2009 with my wife Angela and our two sons. In 2013 I was proud to be elected to serve on Waukesha's Common Council in the 12th District. During this time I have not only been serving my constituents but working to change the perception of what a politician is through professionalism and dedication. I will bring this same practice in representing the 97th District in 2015.

My decision to enter this race is one I make with great excitement and confidence. I look forward to earning the trust and votes of the residents of the 97th District over the next 7 months and my time as Assemblyman.
