Unemployment Rate Remains Steady in Waukesha at 6.8%

Waukesha County unemployment rate lowers from 2012 to 2013.

The unemployment rate in Waukesha remained steady at 6.8 percent from July 2012 to July 2013. The number has fallen from the 7.2 percent reported in June 2013.

Statewide, the jobless came down to 6.8 percent from 7 percent year-to-year.

Unemployment in Waukesha County fell from 6.4 percent in July 2012 to 6 percent in July 2013. The county is the 20th county with the lowest unemployment rates across the state.

The Department of Workforce Development released the new numbers this week. 

Bigger cities like Sheboygan and Milwaukee have jobless rates of 7.3 and 10 percent, respectively.

Bullet points provided by the DWD highlight job growth across the state:

  • Wisconsin added over 62,000 private sector jobs in 2011-12 following the loss of about 134,000 private sector jobs during the previous four years.
  • Wisconsin added 24,124 private-sector jobs from March 2012 to March 2013.

Unemployment rates do not reflect underemployment and part-time workers interested in full time work.
