Town Of Waukesha Wants In On City Water, But With Amended Deal

Town officials amend the City's proposal to be included in their water service area, but not all of the board members voted in favor of the move.

The Town of Waukesha wants to get water from the City of Waukesha and the town OK'd the city's proposal, but they have now included several amendments, according to a story published on WaukeshaNOW.

The board voted 3 to 2 in favor of the amended proposal. Chairman John Marek and supervisors Joe Banske and Brian Fischer cast their votes in favor of the motion while supervisors Mike Laska and Larry Wolf voted against the motion. The two questioned why the town was talking to the city, which had indicated it was too late to join the service area, according to the WaukeshaNOW story.

The Town of Waukesha made the decision earlier this month to be included in the city’s future water service area after two years of deliberations.

While the town board months ago ruled that it only wanted properties north of Highway 164 and east of Meadowbrook Road included in the city’s future water service area, it confirmed its decision after new board members were elected in April.

The move sets the stage for more annexation requests. More than 300 acres of town land have been annexed already, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, and requests are expected. Property owners representing more than 1,000 acres of land are prepared to annex into the city if the properties are not included in the future water service area, Marek told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel in April.
