Closure of Airport Control Towers Could be Prevented with State Help

Gov. Scott Walker says the state will consider funding the airport traffic control towers, which are slated to close due to federal budget cuts.

Gov. Scott Walker said that the state might help prevent the closures of airport traffic control towers, including one in Waukesha County, from closing, reported Patch media partners WISN 12. 

Last week the Federal Aviation Administration announced the closures of the Waukesha County Airport/Crites Field traffic control tower, along with 148 other towers across the country due to federal budget cuts.

Other Wisconsin airport towers that are being shut down include La Crosse, Janesville, Oshkosh, Milwaukee (Timmerman), Kenosha, Eau Claire and Mosinee.

One airport director asked Walker for assistance to stay open and Walker indicated it may be possible; he said the aiport control towers will be kept in mind during the budget process.
