Residents to Weigh in on School Spending Cuts of $8.4M

The School District of Waukesha is holding its 2012-13 budget hearing at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.

A public hearing on the 2012-13 school budget that cut spending by $8.4 million and reduced taxes by by $891,000 will be held at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The public hearing will be held at the School District of Waukesha’s administrative building at 222 Maple Ave.

Public speakers will be allowed three minutes to share their views on the budget.

The tax levy for the district is $83 million, a decrease of $891,000 from last year’s levy, according to the budget. With a 6 percent decrease in equalized property value throughout the district, the tax rate is projected to be $9.74 per $1,000 of property value, compared to last year’s rate of $9.24 per $1,000. Equalized property valuations are determined by the state and final figures are expected in early October.
