Peter Bartels Joining Waukesha Common Council

New alderman replaces Paul Ybarra, who left the Common Council for his career and family.

Peter Bartels is officially the new District 5 alderman after Alderman Paul Ybarra's departure for work- and family-related reasons.

Bartels, who was the only applicant for the position, was unanimously appointed to the position by the Waukesha Common Council on Tuesday. His Oath of Office ceremony is yet to be determined.

The 1991 Marquette University graduate currently works for Metalcraft of Mayville as a technical center manager. He's lived in District 5 for 13 years and has always had an interest in the community, according to his cover letter.

"My background as an engineer has given me the ability to thoroughly research many subjects and make informed decisions," Bartels said in his letter to Mayor Jeff Scrima. "I know my past experiences will benefit me in filling this open position and working for my district."

Bartels will need to be elected in April 2014 to finish Ybarra's term, which ends in 2016.
