Newspaper Reports Update on Waukesha County Clerk Issues

Unknown if or when results of investigation – if there is an investigation – into Waukesha County Clerk Kathy Nickolaus' election results, Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

Officials from the Government Accountability Board are unable to immediately give information about the status of a complaint filed against Waukesha County Clerk Kathy Nickolaus or provide details about any – if there are any – investigations against the clerk because of confidentiality issues, according to a Milwaukee Journal Sentinel report.

Nickolaus’ election results and process have been under scrutiny after a mistake she made during the April 5 election. Nickolaus did not include the city of Brookfield votes in her unofficial media report, which caused Assistant Attorney General JoAnne Kloppenburg to declare victory in the state Supreme Court race. When the mistake was discovered, incumbent Justice David Prosser won the election by about 7,000 votes.

The mistake and subsequent results led to a statewide recount that concluded in mid-May. Nickolaus did not resign but recused herself from the recall process. However, that did not shield her from the calls for resignation or from protestors gathering outside the Waukesha County Courthouse demanding for an investigation into her election results.
