New County Health and Human Services Building Under Budget By $1.5M

The project, which originally was budgeted for $36.7 million, received favorable bids, according to Waukesha County Executive Dan Vrakas.

The new Waukesha County Health and Human Services building on the  is coming in under budget, according to Waukesha County Executive Dan Vrakas.

Construction on and is currently coming in at $1.5 million under budget. The original budget for the project was $36.7 million.

Waukesha County received favorable bids for the HHS Building both last year and this year and was able to coordinate and procure materials allowing for a strong construction start this spring, states the news release.  The $35.2 million building is expected to be completed by the end of 2013.

“The beautiful, highly efficient new building will truly be a gem in Waukesha County,” Vrakas said. “The work that will be done here is extremely important to the vitality of the County. For generations to come, this building will act as the place for people in need of help to go to improve their lives.”

The new building will house the Department of Health and Human Services, Veterans Services and the Aging and Disability Resource Center, replacing the current Health and Human Services building and the Public Health Center, according to a Sept. 17, 2010, county document.

The current building was constructed 100 years ago and cost $1.275 million for its most recent renovations in 1996, which was anticipated to extend the life of the building by 10 to 15 years, the document states.
