Kathy Nickolaus Seeks Return to Waukesha County Politics

Former embattled Waukesha County clerk is seeking a post on the Waukesha County Board of Supervisors.

Former Waukesha County Clerk Kathy Nickolaus is among four candidates seeking an appointment to fill a vacant Waukesha County Board of Supervisor seat, according to the Waukesha Freeman.

The Waukesha Freeman has identified the other candidates as Richard Stromwell, Tina Smith and Dave Zimmerman.

Gov. Scott Walker appointed then-Waukesha County Supervisor Dave Falstad as Commissioner of the Labor and Industry Review Commission (LIRC) in August. Falstad’s appointment led to his resignation on the Waukesha County Board of Supervisors.

Nickolaus did not seek re-election in November 2012 after she received frequent criticism over her election night procedures. A preliminary vote reporting error in April 2011 led to controversy after the exclusion of the City of Brookfield’s votes led to flipped results for a close State Supreme Court race. In April 2012, the votes were significantly delayed, causing Waukesha County Executive Dan Vrakas to ask her to remove herself from the vote counting in the recall election against Gov. Scott Walker.
