In an election night surprise, City of Pewaukee Alderwoman pulled out a win Tuesday to advance in the Waukesha County clerk race.
Novack received 35.9 percent of the vote to ’s 33.5 percent and 's 30.3 percent. While Karalewitz and Kozlik received support from prominent community leaders, it wasn't enough for her to take the race.
All election results are unofficial until canvassing.
The vote tallies are:
- Novack: 19,727
- Karalewitz: 18,393
- Kozlik: 16,641
Novack said she wasn’t surprised by her victory.
“I was very hopeful that this would be the outcome,” she said. “It has been a very tough race with some strong opponents. Even with the final numbers, it is not a huge difference. It has been a nail-bitter for me, that is for sure. … November here it comes.”
Novack will take on However, Novack noted that Waukesha County predominantly votes with the Republican candidates. Read received 4,239 votes in the primary election, although the race wasn't contested and voters can't cross parties in a primary election.
“I am thinking that I have taken on a big task and a lot of responsibility,” Novack said. “I am excited to get in there and get it done — do what I need to do to get us back on task.”
Karalewitz, Kozlik React to Loss
In the end, Karalewitz said it’s the people’s choice to vote for the person they want in office.
“I have a wonderful job in the Town of Mukwonago as well,” Karalewitz said. “The residents love me there. There is another plan out there. It is what it is.”
Kozlik said she was disappointed, but that she worked hard on the campaign during a short amount of time.
“I really have no regrets,” she said.
The strong support of people telling her they voted for her — even people she didn’t know — was “wonderful,” she said.
“I knew I had some competition,” Kozlik said. “I guess I didn’t expect it as much from Novack. I wish whoever ends up winning well. I will certainly support them any way I will.”
Register of Deeds
In the incumbent Jim Behrend won with 21,100 votes – 41.5 percent of the vote.
Also in the election were:
- Michael Starich; 16,430 votes, 32.3 percent
- Barbara Larson-Lloyd; 13,109 votes, 25.8 percent
Because Behrend does not face a Democratic challenger, he essentially was re-elected to his position.
Congratulations Kathleen! Thank God for the voters of Waukesha County who saw through all of the smoke screens put up by the establishment and Karalewitz! Menomonee Falls was on to Karalewitz's bullying tactics that led to the GAB citing her for misapplying and not understanding State Election Law in 2008 along with disenfranchising voters in the closely contested 2004 Assembly Republican Primary with wrong ballots, not recording minutes of a Closed Session for the Village Board in 2003 to provide cover for her liberal RINO friends on a new health care plan that saved taxpayers hundreds of thousands of dollars, costing taxpayers some $30,000 in legal fees for a false and dismissed confidential personnel claim in 2003 leaked to the Journal Sentinel, fighting the County Clerk's Office for the last 10 years because she lost the race in 2002, calling female members of a Village Committee the "b" word because she didn't like them, targeting "certain" Board Members because they didn't cow tow to the establishment, refused to work with County Officials on Election Procedures costing taxpayers thousands of dollars since 2003 and the list goes on and on. Thank you voters of Waukesha County for seeing through this potential train wreck sparing the taxpayers the embarassment and cost of a big mistake! Go get 'em Kathy Novack! You will do a great job and we're behind you!

I'm not supported by the government so my time and equipment are on me. You are welcome to bring your concerns to DA Schimel. Maybe he would finally get out from behind his desk and actually do something as he seems to think that everything else in Menomonee Falls is hunky dory with his friends, campaign contributors, supporters, nomination paper circulators and yard sign displayers. Ask Mark Belling how aggressive Brad Schimel is when it comes to blatant unethical and possible criminal behavior by elected officials in the Falls. Maybe you could actually ask him to look into the corrupt Radisson Hotel project of some $18,000,000 in taxpayer funds that was approved in 2010. Like Sargeant "I See Nuting" Schulz on "Hogan's Heros", it is unlikely that you will be able to get the DA's Office to look into the corruption of the Radisson Hotel. No need to apologize. Knowledge and understanding are amazing things! Just knowing and accepting the truth would be a good place to start for you. The voters didn't throw me out of office. I uncovered tons of quid-pro quo corruption (ie. Radisson Hotel, Falls Fest, MMSD, Milwaukee Water, multi-million dollar unused sick leave cash payouts to retirees, double-dipping contracts to retirees, $157,000,000 in debt service, questionsable disability claims, health care plan debacle, $42,000,000 Municipal Complex, too many employees on the payroll, unclaimed revenue from methane gas with Waste Management, $11,000,000 taxpayer surplus account, etc.) that got the "establishment" nervous and they worked with the Journal Sentinel and the DA to make things so incredibly difficult financially ($40,000 legal fees and another $40,000 to get reappointed professionally) to challenge their false allegations, that I regretably accepted the DA's Plea Bargain Offer when he realized that he was duped by the MF Police and "establishment" which led to the DA dropping all charges except for a very few minor incidents that I didn't do, but took or else I would be ruined financially forever. Keep reading 'sha guy, the truth will eventually come out. Just ask Kathy Karalewitz, Rick Rechlicz, Judge Hurt, Dick Farrenkopf, Mike Morse, Jeff Steliga, Jim Jeskewitz, Mike McDonald, Sharon Ellis, Bob Steliga, Lew Tietz, Lodging Investors and Joe Greco to name a few.
Just a hint and some advice... anytime someone feels the need to use the phrase "I regrettably accepted the DA's plea bargain..." they have lost the argument. I think it may be time to take in your tinfoil hat, check the frequencies and get an antenna alignment.
The best candidate for the job is certainly Novack.
As for candidate Novack, congratulations and good luck! I also believe County Clerk and Register of Deeds should be non-partisan civil service positions. Those offices should be the very model of fairness and neutrality as they administer local duties. Partisan affiliation, by definition, begs for favoritism, etc.
Rather it be county clerk, register of deeds, district attorney, or sheriff have to do with your political ideology. All it seems to do is raise mistrust and questions of integrity. But I would like to get other peoples views, as well as how we can make these non-partisan, or if it is even possible to change.

You're characterizatioins may be amusing for you and your establishment friends, but they aren't funny when it comes to the taxpayers footing the bill for the many missteps of the Village Board that continue to this day. No one would ever be able to stand the daily pounding of the Journal Sentinel that some have taken while standing for truth and having Dan Bice, JS Investigative Reporter, being recorded as saying why he won't cover the corruption in Menomonee Falls even though he agrees that there appears to be corruption when he said, "Well, you're not their favorite person." The email can be presented to you anytime you want to see it. Some would call that favoritism or a cover-up, others call it journalistic malpractice. Hopefully you will be a person of character when the truth comes out and able to look at things fairly, rationally and speak with an open mind. You're right. For years I have seen it printed as cow tow, but your correction is very well received and I will correct it for future references. Good to hear from you. It's been a long time since we've had a chance to visit. I miss our time serving on the board we used to be affiliated with. I totally agree that these administrative positions should be non-partisan. In fact part of my platform is that I will run the office in a non-partisan manner - frankly I don't see how partisan politics would play a role in managing the county clerk's office if it is being run in a transparent manner. My understanding is that there are five county offices that are, by state constitution law, elected in partisan races. As it is part of our constitution, it would probably have to be brought before the whole state as a referendum and passed by the legislature to amend the constitution - an involved, lengthy process, I am sure.
My initial reaction is that Waukesha County is obviously looking for someone with a fresh perspective, yet with enough outside pertinent experience and education to bring competency back into this office. As Kathleen and I have similar educational backgrounds I think the next 2 1/2 months will be an interesting political race to see who can win the trust of the people of Waukesha County. There have been some attempts to make these officea non-partian or even staff, but it's a compex process for little perceived benefit. State legislators would rather deal with other issues. Personally, I find the possibility of a sheriff who thinks "that guy belongs to the other party, so he's obviously the one to arrest" , then being supported by a partisan District Attorney, to be horrifying. Then again, state and national partisan officials often get their start at the local level, so maybe it's a training ground of sorts.
As far as being a training ground I see being a mayor or city council person to be more training, which funny enough, are non-partisan. Most of the things our state legislators do are more symbolic, naming a street or congratulating the Green Bay Packers, I think it would be worth a day on the floor to clean this up.
