Former Mayor to Co-Chair Drug-Free Communities Coalition

Waukesha County Drug-Free Communities Coalition announces 2012 leadership team.

The Waukesha County Drug-Free Communities Coalition (DFC) has announced the members of its 2012 Leadership Team.  Co-Chairs Larry Nelson, former mayor from the City of Waukesha, and Sandra Schultz, founder of Elmbrook Community Health Coalition, are among the eight-person team that will work together to set the strategic direction of the coalition, help grow the member base and ensure the coalitions future sustainability.

  • Bill Humphries – Presbyterian Minister and Chaplain
  • Dinah Van Krevel-Polzin – Alcohol and Other Drug (AODA) Volunteer
  • Sara Carpenter – Wisconsin Community Services Division Administrator
  • Julianne Davan – County Executive Dan Vrakas’ Executive Assistant
  • Bill Mitchell – President of Mitchell Technical Staffing, LLC
  • Pat Kashmerick – Community Memorial Hospital Community Outreach Manager (Retired)

Over the course of three years, DFC has sponsored three drug collection programs, where 465 volunteers worked 1,761 hours to collect a total of 11,900 pounds of medication, collectively, at six collections sites. 

The DFC has conducted multiple “Parents Who Host” campaigns designed at discouraging parents from hosting parties that serve alcohol to underage youth, partnered with the Waukesha Police Department and Waukesha City Attorney’s Office to implement a “responsible beverage server” training program and held multiple community education forums.

The DFC program is a federal effort to reduce youth substance use and abuse of drugs and alcohol.  The Coalition represents a number of partnering agencies including schools, healthcare professionals, law enforcement, media, parents, youth, state and local agencies, and civic and volunteer groups.
