EEOC Investigating City of Waukesha Discrimination Claim

No details being released unless EEOC files a lawsuit against the city.

A discrimination charge against the City of Waukesha was filed through the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission a few weeks ago, and the matter is still pending.

Director Donna Whalen declined to say what city department the EEOC investigation involves.

“It is confidential by federal law,” Whalen said.

The information about the complaint would become public only if it advances to a high level.

“If the EEOC decides to file a lawsuit, it would be public at that time,” Whalen said.

From the EEOC’s website, this is what the EEOC looks to do in discrimination cases:

“EEOC's policy is to seek full and effective relief for each and every victim of discrimination. The remedies may include:

  • posting a notice to all employees advising them of their rights under the laws EEOC enforces and their right to be free from retaliation;
  • corrective or preventive actions taken to cure or correct the source of the identified discrimination;
  • nondiscriminatory placement in the position the victim would have occupied if the discrimination had not occurred;
  • compensatory damages;
  • back pay (with interest if applicable) and lost benefits; and
  • stopping the specific discriminatory practices involved.”
