County Board Chairman Position Stays Full Time

Despite some efforts to make the chairman position part time, it looks like the position will remain at the status quo.

Chairman Paul Decker, who has been in his position since April, originally agreed with making the position part time. But he and others on the board’s Executive Committee voted to keep the position full time, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

In order to make the chairman position, which pays $58,586, part time, the county board would have to approve an ordinance making the changes.

The potential change was brought forward in April by Waukesha County Executive Dan Vrakas after longtime Chairman Jim Dwyer was by another board member who was redistricted into the same district as Dwyer.

“A part-time position will likely attract more candidates to the job, especially those employed in the private sector,” Vrakas said in April.  “We must continue to become more efficient and save taxpayer dollars whenever we can.”

Vrakas “respects the board’s decision,” states the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
