Council Kills Annexation Request for New Walgreens, Aldi

Alderman Roger Patton tried to send the issue back to the Waukesha Plan Commission for reconsideration, but the rest of the Common Council decided to deny the request.

The Waukesha Common Council denied a 4-acre annexation request from the MRED-Cummings Development Corporation and eight Town of Waukesha residents, effectively killing plans for a new Walgreens and Aldi at Sunset Drive and West St. Paul Avenue.

Alderman Roger Patton cast the only vote against the denial. Patton had unsuccessfully attempted to send the issue back to the Plan Commission.

The developers were seeking annexation into the city after the Town of Waukesha denied the proposal. , citing concerns about damaging a stable residential neighborhood, the number of grocery stores and pharmacies nearby, available commercial property in close proximity to the site and declining property values at the Fox Run Shopping Center.
