Controversial County Building Project Again Before Plan Commission

Neighbors near proposed new Waukesha County Health and Human Services on Moor Downs Golf Course oppose plans.

The Waukesha Plan Commission will once again be asked to approve rezoning and preliminary plans for the new Waukesha County Health and Human Services building – a three-story building that would be built on Moor Downs Golf Course.

Opponents of the plans have brought forward issues about preserving Waukesha’s history, the effects on the golf course and the view for the neighbors by the 137,017-square-foot building.

With the request for the new Health and Human Service building approval comes preliminary plans for a maintenance building in the golf course.

The meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at City Hall, 201 Delafield St.

The heavily debated project has appeared several times before the Plan Commission, which has yet to vote on the proposal. The Landmarks Commission already gave its green light for the plans to advance, which includes shortening one hole on the golf course.

Mayor Jeff Scrima motioned during the June 8 meeting to deny that project but the commissioners instead put the vote on hold, to which Scrima agreed.

“We have to be concerned about the stewardship of our green space,” said Scrima in his initial reaction to the plan. “This is right in the heart of our city, and this is a resource to all of our citizens.”
