Common Council was Split 9 to 4 on Appointed Alderman

Richard Hastings received most support during two votes

Waukesha’s newest alderman received the support of nine Common Council members who voted to appoint to the District 12 seat Tuesday night.

Hastings took over Tuesday night for former , who resigned because of health-related issues.

The council was choosing among six different candidates Tuesday night. They took two separate votes as no single candidate received the majority of the support through a closed-ballot vote.

Mike Sturino, an attorney, did not receive any votes. Here are the rest of the candidates followed by who voted for them in the first round:

  • Hastings: Chris Hernandez, Joe Pieper, Paul Ybarra, Rick Tortomasi and Joan Francoeur
  • Jim Connors: Kathleen Cummings, Paul Furrer and Eric Payne
  • Steve Mackie: Vance Skinner and Duane Paulson
  • Keith Michalski: Roger Patton and John Kalblinger
  • Richard Hanson: Steve Johnson
