HR To Get Search Update for Administrator

Waukesha has been operating with interim city administrator since August.

It’s been awhile since anything has been said about the search for Waukesha’s next city administrator. While there is still a lot of work to do, such as establishing a job description and posting the job position, the will hear an update about the status of the city hiring an executive search firm to seek candidates for city administrator.

The meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at City Hall, 201 Delafield St.

Steve Crandell, director of community development, has been working as the interim city administrator since early August after former City Administrator Lori Luther took a position as the Peoria County administrator. Working relations between Mayor Jeff Scrima and Luther were rocky and tense since Scrima was elected in May 2010 and the Common Council in July 2010 removed Scrima from being her direct supervisor and changed her job description to clarify that she is to answer to the Common Council.

Before that, the mayor led the evaluations of the city administrator and could recommend that the Common Council terminate the employee in that position. The mayor never had sole power over the city administrator position.

  • Discussion and recommendation: Parks, Recreation and Forestry Department - Recreation Division Staff Reorganization/Repurposing Plan
  • Discussion and recommendation: Request by Police Department to amend HR Policy C- “Overtime Pay, Compensatory Time Off and Out of Classification Pay” to allow for flexibility in scheduling Lieutenants and Sergeants including, but not limited to, a rotating 4-3, 3-2 schedule consisting of 10 hour days.
  • Discussion and recommendation: Referral by Ald. Skinner to review the employee hiring and termination processes primarily as those processes relate to e-mail access, data retention, computer, mobile access, badges and keys.
