City Administrator Performance Evaluation Will Be Discussed Next Week

Lori Luther says she wants to be treated like other Waukesha employees when modifying contract to meet budget repair bill contributions.

City Administrator Lori Luther will ask the Common Council to treat her like all other non-represented employees in the city when they discuss her annual performance evaluation and possible contract changes during the April 7 Common Council meeting, she said Thursday.

Changes to Luther’s contract would need to be mutually agreed upon before enacted, including the contributing 5.8 percent of her salary toward the Wisconsin Retirement Fund under the pending state legislation in the budget repair bill. Luther said she will ask the council to change the contract to reflect the upcoming legislation.

“I think it is only fair that I be treated the same as the individuals I supervise,” Luther said.

Another portion of Luther's contract that could be up for negotiation is salary. All city employees, including Luther, had their salaries frozen in 2010. Employees received a 1 percent wage increase in January and will receive another 1 percent increase in July.

Luther’s salary remains at the 2009 levels but if the Common Council were to approve an increase in line with other employees, she would on average have a 1.5 percent salary increase. With the increase in salary and contributing into the state pension fund, Luther said she will still see a 4.3 percent reduction in net pay, which would be about $5,000 annually. Luther currently is paid a $115,304 salary.

Luther said she is also going to ask for a short-term disability benefit. She is seeking to be included under the city’s policy “if something catastrophic would happen,” she said.
