Alley Reconstruction Begins Monday, Weather Permitting

Five alleys being reconstructed with concrete pavement.

Five alleys will be reconstructed beginning Monday – weather permitting – in the vicinity of South Grand and Garfield avenues between West Wabash and West Roberta avenues, according to an e-mail from the city's

The alleys will be totally or have portions reconstructed with concrete pavement, the e-mail states. The alleys will be closed when the contractor begins its work.

The order that the contractor will proceed through the alleys is:

  • Alley 47
  • Alley 45 (north-south portion only)
  • Alley 48 (north-south portion only)
  • Alleys 50 and 51

Once construction begins on a particular alley, it is estimated that that alley's work will last approximately five weeks, the e-mail states. The schedule, however, depends on the weather.
