2 Waukesha Apartment Projects Receive Federal Subsidies
Grants to help provide low-income disabled people with housing opportunities.
Two Waukesha apartment projects that are designed to assist those with disabilities were awarded federal Wednesday, according to a news release from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

The grant funding awarded under HUD’s Sections 202 and 811 Supportive Housing programs will kick start construction or major rehabilitation on more than 189 housing developments in 41 different states and Puerto Rico. When complete, more than 4,800 elderly households and persons with disabilities will be affordably housed with access to needed services.

was given $1.298 million in capital costs and $90,600 in a three-year rental subsidy for a project that will construct two home-like apartment buildings with four one-bedroom units that will have accessible front doors for low-income disabled people.
“The units are located directly across from Horeb Spring Park,” the release states. “Public transportation is available within walking distance and the downtown business district is within one-half mile as well. The building is designed to Bronze certification standards for green buildings.”

Lutheran Social Services of Wisconsin is being awarded $1.136 million with $90,600 in a three-year rental subsidy for its apartment building for low-income, disabled people that will have eight one-bedroom units.
“The building site is part of the Glacial-Drumlin State Park Trail and is directly adjacent to public transportation,” the release states. “The Fox Run Shopping Center is nearby with banking, grocery shopping, restaurants and other amenities. The eight units are designed to achieve the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) Bronze Green Building Guidelines certification.”
