12 Years Later: Wisconsin Remembers Sept. 11, 2001

Communities plan Sept. 11 memorial events for this week.

Wednesday is the 12th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and a plane that crashed in an empty field in rural Pennsylvania.

Several community events are being held this week to remind us of that day so that we never forget the attacks, the people who lost their lives and the heroic actions and sacrifices of the men and women who responded to the attacks on our country.

Here are some Sept. 11 events that are being held this week:

  • Greenfield Fire Department, 5330 W. Layton Ave., 5 p.m., 9-11 remembrance ceremony and ambulance dedication to Army Spc. Scott Nagorski. Cake and refreshments to follow.
  • Milwaukee County War Memorial, wreath laying, 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. Wednesday.
  • 9-11 Memorial in Lisbon Town Hall Park, W234-N8676 Woodside Road, community picnic, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. New addition to the 9-11 Memorial will be unveiled.
  • Saukville hosts a memorial in Ozaukee County. Ceremony starts at 7 p.m. with a silent march from the Saukville Fire Department to Grady Park. Refreshments will follow.
