Woman Sent to Hospital After Waukesha Fire

Waukesha Fire Department extinguishes blaze on North Grandview Boulevard.

A woman who received minor burns and smoke inhalation was transported to Waukesha Memorial Hospital after the house where she was caught fire on the second floor late Wednesday morning, according to Battalion Chief Joe Hoffman.

The fire was reported at 11:37 a.m. at 1400 N. Grandview Blvd. by a passerby who saw flames from the upper levels of the home, Hoffman said. The passerby alerted and assisted the woman who was in the house at the time of the fire.

An ambulance from Fire Station No. 4 was the first on scene from the fire department and paramedics began treatment on the woman while attacking the fire with a fire extinguisher until the fire engine arrived on scene, Hoffman said.

The fire was on the second floor and was contained to the bedroom area. The fire did not extend into the walls, Hoffman said. A badly burned mattress was removed from the home by the firefighters.

Assistant Fire Chief Steve Howard said it’s too early into the investigation to determine the exact cause and total damage amount from the fire.
