Woman Reports to Police She Believes She Was Scammed by Online Boyfriend

Waukesha woman gave man $16,000 to help with his daughter's education, police call log states.

A Waukesha woman is apparently out $16,000 and, if she follows police advice, will be out of love as well.

The woman reported to police at 3:47 p.m. Wednesday she gave $16,000 to a man she met through a Christian online dating website during a period of several month, according to the Waukesha police department call log.

The man would ask for financial help to pay for his daughter’s education, she told police.

The woman reported to police that she communicated with the man, who lives in the United Kingdom, through e-mail and instant messages. The woman, who wanted to recover some of the lost money, was advised by police that no crime had been committed because she had freely given the money.

Police also advised the woman to change her e-mail address, her screen name and to stop sending the man money, the call log states.
