Woman Charged With Felony OWI After Driving Erratically in Waukesha

Suspect, 53, told police she took multiple prescription pills before driving, according to criminal complaint.

A New Berlin woman is facing felony operating while intoxicated charges after she drove erratically through Waukesha Friday after taking pills, according to a criminal complaint.

Linda L. Casalena, 53, was charged in on Monday with one count of fourth OWI within five years. If convicted, she faces up to six years in prison and $10,000 in fines.

At 4:11 p.m. Friday, Waukesha police were called after drivers reported Casalena was driving erratically and down the center of roads, causing oncoming traffic to swerve to avoid hitting her. She eventually pulled into a Speedway gas station on East Sunset Drive, where officers found her parked next to a gas pump.

Casalena said she hadn’t been drinking but was on pills to treat high blood pressure, depression and anxiety.

She was previously convicted of drunken driving in 1995, 2003 and 2009. She’s free on $2,000 bail while awaiting trial.
