Waukesha Woman Charged After Drinking, Taking Gun

Suspect tells police she was planning to kill herself after taking her boyfriend's minivan and gun.

A 27-year-old Waukesha woman is facing charges after she got drunk and took her boyfriend’s van to a bank parking lot where she planned to kill herself with a gun.

Holland A. Schaefer was charged in Waukesha County Circuit Court Friday with one count of possession of a firearm while intoxicated and one count of disorderly conduct. If convicted, she faces up to one year in prison and $11,000 in fines.

On May 22, a Waukesha police officer was on patrol when a man flagged him down and told him his girlfriend had just left with his minivan and gun. He said she had been drinking beer and talking all day about killing herself.

Officers found Schaefer sitting in the driver’s seat of the van in the parking lot of with the gun on her lap. Eventually officers were able to get her to open the door and toss out the gun, at which time they took her into custody.

Schaefer told police she had drank five to six beers and had planned to shoot herself.

She will make her initial appearance in court July 9.
