Update; 8:45 p.m. Sunday: An eight-hour standoff ended peacefully Sunday night in a northwest Waukesha neighborhood after a 48-year-old man who possibly had armed himself with a rifle was arrested, according to Capt. Ron Oremus.

Police were informed around noon Sunday that the man had violated a restraining order in the Town of Summit Saturday night. The man threatened the victim and evaded police, Oremus said.

Police responded with its full Tactical Unit to bring the suspect into custody. Area residents in the 1600 block of Cedar Lane were asked to stay in their basements or to leave their residences.

The man refused to come out of the residence, but others in the home were allowed to leave the residence, Oremus said.

Police shot beanbag and baton rounds into the home, but the 48-year-old man still refused to leave the residence. Police located him barricaded in a bedroom, tased him and took him into custody at 8:03 p.m.

“The community remained safe throughout the process,” Oremus said in the release.

Update, 7:45 p.m. Police have been on scene for about seven hours as they continue at this standoff. Area neighbors are gathered around watching the police continue their efforts.

The tactical team could be heard earlier using a loud bang, but it is unknown what type of device made the sound.
