Waukesha Police Participate in Law Enforcement Torch Run

25th annual torch run held Thursday to start Wisconsin Special Olympics.

Members from the Waukesha Police Department and other area departments participated Thursday in the 25th annual Wisconsin Law Enforcement Torch Run for the Special Olympics.

The torch run kicks off Wisconsin Special Olympics’ summer games by bringing the torch from all corners of Wisconsin to Steven’s Point where the games are taking place.

Area law enforcement participate in fundraising events to benefit the Special Olympics.

“The Torch Run is held in all 50 United States, 12 Canadian provinces and territories, and 35 nations, and involves more than 85,000 law enforcement participants from all over the world,” the Special Olympics website states.  “In 2010, this international program raised more than $38 million to support Special Olympics.“
