Update: Waukesha Police Arrest Burglary Suspect, Confiscate Weapon Following Standoff

Police say suspect is a known gang member who fled from officers early Thursday afternoon.

Update, 5:21 p.m. Thursday: The Waukesha Police Department has arrested a suspect in a burglary that involved a shotgun being stolen, according to Waukesha Police Capt. Dennis Angle.

The burglary was reported June 10 in the 100 block of West Broadway, Angle said, and police developed and confirmed the identity of the suspect. Police located that suspect at 12:43 p.m. Thursday in the 500 block of Lincoln Avenue, Angle said in a news release.

The suspect lived in the 500 block of Lincoln Avenue, according to Angle.

The suspect is a known gang member with a violent history, Angle said. The suspect fled from officers in the area, so police secured the area with the police department and its tactical unit, the Waukesha Fire Department and the Waukesha County Sheriff’s Department’s K-9 Unit.

No one was injured as the suspect was safely taken into custody. Police recovered the weapon, Angle said.

Police are not releasing the suspect’s name at this time.

Earlier: The Waukesha Police Department is on the scene of a tactical situation as police are attempting to take into custody a suspect who may have a weapon.

Officers are swarming Hartwell Avenue, East Broadway and Lincoln Avenue. One person was ordered to have his hands in the air by police but it is unclear if that is the person police were attempting to apprehend.

Capt. Dennis Angle said at the scene that it is because of the suspect’s history that there is a large police response at this time.

“It is an investigation that we have been working on for a little while,” Angle said about 3:30 p.m. Thursday. “It is just when we IDed and eyeballed what we wanted probably about two hours ago.”
