Waukesha Police Department's OptiCop Catches Van Splashing Into River

Waukesha dispatchers able to monitor situation as firefighters and police officers responded to Fox River.

The Waukesha Police Department's OptiCop footage caught the on camera Wednesday morning as an elderly man drove his minivan into the Fox River.

"The dispatchers were able to see the car go in the river," Deputy Police Chief Mark Stigler said.

The dispatchers kept an electronic eye on the entire incident and were able to alert the Waukesha Fire Department to the need for the cold water rescue. As the firefighters and police officers were on the way to the Fox River, the dispatchers were able to tell exactly where the car was and that the man was still in the van, Stigler said.
