A Waukesha man is accused of driving without a license after a Tuesday accident in the Town of Genesee that killed a Muskego man.
The Muskego man, Leonard Miller, died at a nearby hospital Wednesday, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
Ernesto E. Lazo Villamil, 35, of Waukesha, was charged in Waukesha County Circuit Court Wednesday with one count of operating a motor vehicle without a license and causing great bodily harm. If convicted, he faces up to 1 1/2 years in prison and $10,000 in fines.
According to the criminal complaint:
At 5:57 a.m. Tuesday, Waukesha County sheriff's deputies were called to Highway 59 near Hillside Road for an accident. Deputies found five cars involved in the crash, with Miller slumped over the steering wheel of his Pontiac Grand Am.
Villamil's SUV was parked nearby and engulfed in flames. The driver of a Lincoln Town Car involved in the crash told deputies he was headed eastbound on 59 when he saw the out-of-control Grand Am heading toward him before the collision.
The driver of the Town Car was taken to the hospital and treated for injuries. Miller was taken to Froedtert Hospital via Flight for Life.
Villamil said he was behind the Grand Am heading westbound when Miller slowed down abruptly and Villamil was unable to slow down in time, causing his SUV to hit the car and send it out of control. Villamil previously had his license revoked due to an operating while intoxicated charge and hasn't had it reinstated.
Villamil is currently being held in Waukesha County Jail on $10,000 bond while awaiting trial.
