At 2:35 a.m. Sunday, the victim was walking near West National Avenue near South 82nd Street when the two suspects began driving slowly behind him in the parking lane. They jumped out of the vehicle and Martinez held a screwdriver up to the victim and demanded money.

The victim tried to explain that he’s homeless and doesn’t have any money and then tried backing into the roadway in order to attract the attention of any passing cars. Eventually the two left after seeing oncoming headlights in the distance, which turned out to be a West Allis police squad car.

The victim flagged down the officer, who found the men sitting inside an SUV.

While being booked, Martinez became belligerent with police and refused to cooperate with officers. He’s also being charged with one count of resisting an officer, which carries a maximum sentence of nine months if convicted.

Both men are being held in Milwaukee County Jail on cash bail. A preliminary hearing has been scheduled in the case for Tuesday.
