Waukesha Man Accused of Burglarizing His Aunt’s Home

A 21-year-old Waukesha man is facing felony charges after he allegedly burglarized his aunt’s home twice so he could get cash to buy heroin, according to a criminal complaint.

Mark B. Collins was charged in Waukesha County Circuit Court on Thursday with two counts of burglary. If convicted, he faces up to 25 years in prison and $50,000 in fines.

According to the criminal complaint:

On Oct. 17, Collins went into his aunt’s home in the 100 block of South Hartwell Avenue and stole $3 in quarters, a mason jar with $25 in cash, a box with at least $75 in gold coins and some loose change. The woman told police she suspected her nephew in the burglary and said the house was left unlocked while she was gone.

Although she locked the house after the burglary, two days later, Collins broke into the house again and stole more change along with video games.

Collins first denied burglarizing the home, then came back to the police station to confess to the crimes, saying he has issues with heroin.

He will make his initial appearance in court April 23.
