Waukesha Homicide Suspect's Father Fears Son Will Be Killed

Eddie Callaway is charged with killing 24-year-old Shanel "Nani" Negron on April 22. Waukesha police are still seeking his whereabouts.

It’s been one week since Shanel “Nani” Negron was shot and killed at the corner of Summit Avenue and North Moreland Boulevard.

Her boyfriend, 26-year-old Eddie Callaway, is still on the run from police. He has been charged with first-degree intentional homicide in her death and a warrant has been issued for his arrest.

Patch’s media partners at WISN 12 News spoke with Callaway’s father, also named Eddie Callaway. The father lives in Indiana and fears his son won’t make it out of the manhunt alive.

“I don't know what happened to Nani, I love her,” father told WISN 12 News. “But I'm going to tell you something: As God as my witness, they're only trying to make a vigilante out here now to execute my son."

The Waukesha Police Department has not yet arrested Callway. He has family ties in the Indianapolis area and he has run there in the past during legal trouble.

Callaway has a violent history, including an incident where he chopped off his sister’s ponytail and shaved off her eyebrows. He also has a felony record after taking a 14-year-old girl and her mother’s car to Indiana. After two weeks, the girl wanted to return home to Brookfield because of the violence in Callaway’s family.

In February, a former girlfriend who was not Negron filed a restraining order against Callaway, stating Callaway "would hold knives to my throat and a gun to my head and threaten to kill me." She further asserted that Callaway would stalk her outside her place of work, and would choke her, push her and physically and verbally assault her in other ways.

Callaway was last scene driving a grey 2002 Ford Taurus with the license plate 394-TVK. He is believed to be armed and dangerous and police are asking people to call 911 if he is spotted.

Meanwhile, a vigil is planned for Negron at Carroll University at 8 p.m. where she worked for Chartwells, the campus’ food services vendor.

Negron’s remembered by friends and family members for being a mother who would do anything for her daughter.

At a vigil Wednesday, Negron’s sister, Danielle Rivera, called for an end to domestic violence and asked friends and family members to contact police if they see Callaway.
