Waukesha Fire Station Statue Project on Hold

Donations remain in Waukesha County Community Foundation.

A fundraising project to put a community art statue in Waukesha Fire Station No. 1 has been put on hold.

The specially commissioned statue would have been created especially for the fire station near downtown Waukesha through fundraising. While the project is on hold, the funds remain in the Waukesha County Community Foundation.

Assistant Fire Chief Steve Howard said during a recent interview that the committee in charge of the project will have to make a decision about what will be placed at the fire station. But for now, plans for the special statue was of a child looking up at a fire pole are on hold.

A letter to financial supports of the art piece from Fire Chief Allen LaConte explains the fundraising situation:

On behalf of the Waukesha Fire Department, I would like to express my sincere appreciation for your support of the fire station community art project.  With this said, it is with regret I inform you that we have been unable to secure the additional funding needed to see this project come to fruition.  As we have come to the disappointing realization that it has become necessary to put this project on hold, we want our supporters to know that it remains our intent to see this project become reality.

The initial phases of this project were critical.  Specifically, the donation you made provided us with the funds to commission an original painting, 300 signed and numbered prints, and 30 Artist’s proofs of the “child looking up expectantly at a fire pole”.  The painting was completed, and the prints are now available.  At this time, the prints will continue to serve as our main fundraising tool for this project, with the balance of, and all future funds collected being held by the Waukesha County Community Foundation.  These funds will remain available to us for this project.

We remain focused on the vision of this project, a sculpture that will become a permanent tribute to a child’s dreams and aspirations, as well as to the past and present members of the City of Waukesha Fire Department.  We continue to believe that this public art project will be an asset to the community, and therefore, will make every effort to see it become a reality.  Once again, we would like to thank you for your support.
