Waukesha Electric Systems Damaged in Fire Sunday Night

One firefighter received a minor injury while the Waukesha Fire Department quickly put the fire under control and evacuated the plant.

Damage estimates are still being totaled for a fire that started in a transformer test bay at Waukesha Electric Systems Sunday night.

The Waukesha Fire Department responded to the fire at 8:52 p.m. Sunday at 400 S. Prairie Ave. where the building was filled with smoke. The firefighters quickly brought the fire under control and evacuated the building, according to a news release from Battalion Chief Joe Hoffman.

No civilians were injured in the fire but one firefighter received a minor injury in the four-station response, according to Hoffman.

While the fire damage was contained to the transformer test bay, there was “significant water and smoke damage to other areas inside the plant,” the release states.

The fire remains under investigation. A cause of the fire and the damage estimate is not yet available.
