Mustaches, Xs on Picture Lead to Perceived Bomb Threat

A 46-year-old New Berlin woman is accused of sending what was perceived as a bomb threat to her ex-husband’s employer after a night of drinking and drawing Xs over pictures of his new girlfriend, according to a criminal complaint.

Dawn K. Coryell was charged in Waukesha County Circuit Court on Wednesday with one count of disorderly conduct. If convicted, she faces up to 90 days in jail and $1,000 in fines.

According to the criminal complaint:

On Oct. 29, Waukesha County sheriff’s deputies were called to Dueco, N4 W22610 Bluemound Road, on the report of a bomb threat. When deputies arrived, the company president handed them a letter found in the company mailbox with a photograph of four employees with their photos crossed out and mustaches drawn on them.

On the back someone had written “bomb threat,” but the word bomb had scribbling on it. Deputies searched the facility and didn’t find anything.

The investigation led deputies to Coryell, who was interviewed the next day. She told authorities she sent the letter. Coryell said her ex-husband works at Dueco along with his girlfriend, who he started dating while they were still married.

Two months ago, Coryell said she was on the Internet when she found the picture of the girlfriend and her siblings, who also work at Dueco. During a weekend of drinking just before the letter was found at Dueco, she decided to draw Xs on the photo, then placed it in the company’s mailbox.

Coryell said she didn’t remember writing anything on the back of the picture, but was sorry for what she did.

She will make her initial appearance in court Nov. 26.
