Two Men Charged with Breaking into Vacant House in Waukesha
Suspects, who were heavily intoxicated, needed to be broken out of the home, which had its doors and windows screwed shut.
Randall E. Evans, 55, of Germantown, and Richard F. Gerber, 55, of Waukesha, were each charged in Waukesha County Circuit Court Wednesday with one count of criminal damage to property and one count of criminal trespass. If convicted, they face up to 18 months in prison and $20,000 in fines.
According to the criminal complaint, officers were called to the vacant home located at 508-512 N. Hartwell Ave. after there were reports of someone hearing glass break at the residence, which is owned by the YMCA.
Officers noticed Evans inside the residence drinking a 24-ounce can of Steel Reserve beer and appeared heavily intoxicated. The doors and windows of the house had been screwed shut by YMCA staff to prevent people from entering the residence, so officers needed to break into the building as the men were too intoxicated to get out on their own, the complaint states.
