The victim contacted Waukesha police officers in April after he discovered Slater had written a forged check from his bank account for $450 and then found thousands of dollars had been taken from his and his wife’s checking account.

He said they spent the winter in Florida and let Wolf stay at their home when they were gone. Wolf and Slater had access to their bank information. There were 157 withdrawals from the account for a total loss of $18,295.

Slater told officers Wolf’s mother gave her a debit card to use for an emergency, but they instead kept withdrawing money from the bank account to fuel their heroin habit. He said he didn’t remember writing the forged check, but the man it was written to he met at the Salvation Army.
