Town of Waukesha Man Facing 5th OWI Charge
Suspect allegedly drove down the wrong side of the road Saturday in Town of Vernon.
A 38-year-old Town of Waukesha man is facing his fifth drunken driving offense after he was arrested Saturday in Town of Vernon.
Mark J. Steckhan was charged in Waukesha County Circuit Court Monday with one count of fifth offense OWI. If convicted, he faces up to six years in prison and $10,000 in fines.
According to the criminal complaint, at 12:42 a.m. Saturday, a Waukesha County sheriff’s deputy noticed Steckhan driving erratically on Highway ES and eventually turned onto Heather Court where he was driving on the wrong side of the road.

Steckhan told the deputy he consumed six beers within the last 24 hours, with the last being four hours prior to the stop. However, he failed field sobriety tests and had a blood alcohol level of 0.083 percent at the time of the incident.
Steckhan was previously convicted of OWI in 1999, 2000, 2001 and 2004. He’s currently being held in Waukesha County Jail on $3,500 cash bond.
