A duct-taped box that resembled a bomb found on a bridge in downtown Waukesha just before 7 p.m. Friday did not contain any explosives, according to Lt. Tom Wallschlaeger.
The Milwaukee County bomb squad was called to the scene. After x-raying the package, the explosive experts felt the box was designed to resemble an explosive device.
"However, they were not certain that it was," Wallschlaeger said. "The package was detonated and examined further.Β It did not contain anything that could have harmed anyone, however they stressed that this was designed to appear to be an explosive-type device."
A Waukesha police officer working in downtown Waukesha for Freeman Friday Night Live was alerted to the package, which was found on a bridge over the Fox River.Β
The apparent prank left the area blocked off to pedestrian traffic for more than three hours. Waukesha police cleared the scene at 10:15 p.m. Friday.
The package was found during Freeman Friday Night Live, which brings large crowds to the downtown Waukesha area each week.
